Literacy Volunteers Honors Students and Tutors

The Literacy Volunteers team celebrated the success of its students and honored the dedication of its tutors during the program's annual Recognition Night on June 24.

During the event, several students spoke and shared how Literacy Volunteers' English-language and literacy instruction has transformed their lives. Many also read selections of their original writings.

The focal point of the evening was the presentation of numerous awards to recognize the hard work and tenacity of Literacy Volunteers students.  Thirty-two students were deemed "Top Scholars" for their accomplishments in writing, English-language improvement and career development.  Quirino Lopez was named "Student of the Year", while Brandol Chutan and Bersabet Macas were given Honorable Mention honors.  Special awards were also presented for accomplishments in writing, long-term learning, work-readiness, ambassadorship and community leadership.

Several volunteer tutors were also honored for their service and dedication to the program.
