Our Philosophy

At Family Centers, we accept each child as a unique and valuable individual and group member. We honor, respect, and welcome family languages and cultures.

Our curriculum, goals, and objectives guide our staff’s ongoing assessment of each child’s progress, while facilitating each child’s individual growth and language acquisition, as well as cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and creative development.

Our Curriculum

Family Centers’ Early Care and Education (ECE) program uses a play-based, themed, multi-sensory approach to learning. We place a strong emphasis on the social-emotional development of children, employing restorative practices and the Second Step curriculum to bolster their learning.

In our program, the children experience daily large and small-group activities, indoor choice time, music and movement, and outdoor play time. Children learn about their world through hands-on activities through units such as weather, communities, growing, kindness, motion, foods, families and friends, transportation, and more. The curriculum’s objectives and individualized lesson plans, which are developed based on each child’s personal development, are aligned with the CT ELDS (Connecticut Early Learning Development Standards).

Teachers observe the growth of all children in the classroom and track their development in seven domains using Teaching Strategies Gold, a respected online assessment system. Parent-Teacher conferences are held three times a year to discuss their child’s progress.

Family Centers’ ECE program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), ensuring the highest quality of care and education for your child!
