English Classes for Adult ESL Learners
Proficiency in reading, writing and verbal communication is essential to reach goals, both personally and professionally. We offer a full range of free hybrid classes (online and in-person) from beginner to advanced levels. A smartphone or computer device will be necessary to successfully attend class. Classes are offered in the morning or evening. Textbook is included.
Civics, Workplace ESL & Training
Join Literacy Volunteers at Family Centers for a one-year program; participate in English classes with a focus on Civics education and take advantage of available professional training and certifications to prepare you for the job of your dreams! Students can pursue training and certification to earn their Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, with the option to specialize in either Preschool or Infant/Toddler education. All applicants will be assessed for eligibility: English proficiency test, over the age of 18 years old, social security number, and Connecticut residency required.
Transition to Success
Develop your English language skills; acquire necessary speaking, reading and writing for today's workplace. Classes are 6 hours a week for 15 weeks. Curriculum includes vocational development: building critical thinking and research skills; reading and writing development; problem solving; team building; and effectively conducting a job search. Creating resumes and participating in mock interviews will prepare you for the real working world.
Learn about 21st century computer applications that will strengthen your digital skills- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet research, Email, Google Suite and more.
Family Literacy
In partnership with New Lebanon Elementary School in Greenwich, we offer classes twice a week to parents and children in the New Lebanon school community. This program includes parent and children literacy activities, field trips, workshops and a wonderful experience to be a part of the school community.
