Whether you are looking to have arrange a weekly telephone check-in call, learn a language or exercise with others through a teleconference course, Friendly Connections has something for you!
Friendly Connections Outreach Programs
Run on a "semester schedule", the Friendly Connections Telephone Courses offer an assortment of educational, social and enrichment opportunities for the 50 population. Courses are conducted over the telephone and cover a wide variety of topics designed for the active Boomer interested in continuing their education and for the older adult looking to stay involved in the community. Specialty support groups include a Caregiver's Support group for those caring for a friend, spouse or parent, an Alzheimer's Support group led by a member of the Alzheimer's Association team and a Stroke Support group for those recovering from a stroke and their caregivers. Best of all, participating is easy! See our course catalog and registration form to get started!
Friendly Caller Program
Volunteers make phone calls to home-bound or isolated aging members of the community. By providing support and companionship, this service assists older adults to remain in their own homes and to live independently.
Friendly Visitor Program
Volunteers are matched one-to-one to older and sometimes home-bound individuals and make weekly visits. The purpose of these visits is to provide companionship and support.
The Friendly Connections program relies heavily on volunteers interested in enriching the lives of others through discussion, conversation and companionship. All volunteers receive orientation, ongoing supervision and resources pertaining to their volunteer activity. Schedules are flexible, as most opportunities require less than 4 hours a month.
