Musical Performance to Raise Funds for Bereavement and Illness Support Programs
On April 2, a new hero will be introduced. He doesn't fight crime or stop moving trains, but he teaches kids an important lesson about self esteem.
His name is Zak, and he's the star of “The Adventures of Zak” – a one-act musical that will support illness and bereavement programs offered at the Center for Hope and The Den for Grieving Kids. The event will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 2 at Darien Town Hall.
“The Adventures of Zak” is the story of a loveable creature trying to earn a pair of golden wings that will enable him to return to his home planet. But to get his wings, Zak must help a child gain self-confidence. “Zak” is produced by the Magical Music for Life Foundation, a New Canaan-based organization that teams with nonprofit agencies to assist with fundraising and awareness efforts.
“Many of our clients grieving the loss of a loved one often experience feelings of helplessness,” said Deirdre Lewin director of the Center for Hope and The Den for Grieving Kids. “The themes conveyed in 'Zak' directly relate to our services, as they remind us how hope can help in overcoming even the most difficult obstacles in life.”
“The Adventures of Zak” is sponsored by Rings End Lumber; Dr. David Osherow of Darien; Patriot National Bank; Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP; and Nielsen's Florist & Garden Shop in Darien. Media partners include the Darien News-Review, the Greenwich Citizen and Brooks Community Newspapers.
Tickets are $10 for children and $15 for adults. Preferred seating, which includes a copy of “The Adventures of Zak” CD and a poster autographed by the cast, is also available for $25 per child and $50 per adult. Tickets can be purchased at the Center for Hope, 590 Post Rd., Darien; Family Centers, 40 Arch St., Greenwich; Patriot National Bank, 800 Post Rd., Darien; and Michael Joseph's Catering, 188 Heights Rd., Darien. Telephone reservations are also accepted by calling 203-655-4693.
