Family Centers and Greenwich Library Celebrate Budding Artists

The Friends of Greenwich Library has always held art shows featuring Fairfield County’s best up-and-coming artists.  But the spotlight will was recently on the area’s youngest artists.

On Wednesday, May 23, Family Centers’ Head Start Preschool held its annual art show at the Greenwich Library.  Hosted by the Friends of Greenwich Library, the show featured original artwork from 34 Head Start students.  Students and parents were treated to refreshments as they admired the brightly colored paintings and drawings.  The preschoolers’ artwork will be on display in the library’s Children’s Room for the next month.

“The annual art show is a great event that allows our students to show off their creativity and share their talents with the community,” said Megan Sweeney, director of Family Centers’ Head Start Preschool.  “Through the cooperation and generosity of the Friends of Greenwich Library, the joy of literacy and art are combined in this wonderful celebration.”

The annual Head Start Art Show is part of a longstanding relationship with the Greenwich Library.  Throughout the year, the Friends of Greenwich Library works with the Head Start Preschool to plan literacy-related activities for the students.  The library also holds a number of special events for Head Start students and their parents.

Operated by Family Centers, the Head Start Preschools offer education programs for three and four year-old children of families residing in Greenwich public and subsidized housing.  Head Start emphasizes parent involvement to encourage and support children’s educational and social development.
