Thanks to the generosity of area businesses, schools and civic groups, this holiday season will be especially bright for many low-income families living in lower Fairfield County. Throughout the month of December, Family Centers has received gifts and donations from several organizations wishing to help individuals and families in need. All donations were graciously accepted and distributed directly to Family Centers clients. A number of organizations earmarked their donations for Greenwich Head Start – Family Centers’ preschool for three and four year-old children of families residing in Greenwich public and subsidized housing. The Junior League of Greenwich recently facilitated a “Giving Tree” and collected dozens of books, toys, blankets, household good and grocery store gift certificates for the preschools’ children and their families. The Fairfield Network of Executive Women in Westport also donated new outfits and coats, while Greenwich’s Stanwich School collected winter hats and mittens for each of the preschool’s 35 children. Citibank in Greenwich also money for classroom supplies or playground equipment. The Junior League of Stamford and Norwalk donated more than 40 gifts for the families enrolled in Family Centers’ Nurturing Families program. Nurturing Families provides educational and family support to new parents delivering at Stamford and Greenwich hospitals. The program pays close attention to families in need to reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect. For the fourth consecutive year, employees of the Ben Marketing Group in Stamford purchased toys and gifts for Family Centers clients. This year, almost $5,000 in gifts were distributed to families in need throughout the agency. The Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) in Stamford also led a toy drive that collected more than 70 toys for the children of The Den for Grieving Kids and other Family Centers programs. Family Centers is a private, nonprofit organization offering education and human services to children, adults and families in Fairfield County.
