Greenwich Academy's recent middle school community service day brought students from all four grades to nonprofit agencies and organizations across the area. This year's community service theme for the fifth grade was centered on clothing, so teams of girls visited either Family Centers, Person to Person, the Red Cross or St. Luke's Life Works to donate coats, sweaters, shirts, dresses and even outfits for newborns.
For the third year in a row, Libby Clark's fifth grade advisory group visited Family Centers' Stamford office to donate clothing to a new program called HOPE VI Community Supportive Services Program (CSSP) in Stamford. Accompanied by a teacher and Greenwich Academy parent volunteers, the Greenwich Academy girls collected and sorted fall and winter clothing for 12 families served by Family Centers' CSSP. Additionally, a group of eighth grade girls volunteered at Family Centers' NAEYC-accredited early childhood education programs in Greenwich.
In 2004, the Stamford Housing Authority received a $20 million HOPE VI grant from HUD to rebuild Fairfield Court in Stamford. This four-year project will result in four new housing developments that offer public, market rate and homeownership options for the residents at Fairfield Court. The Stamford Housing Authority selected Family Centers to develop and manage the Community and Supportive Services Program (CSSP). Through CSSP, Family Centers will assist Fairfield Court residents to achieve greater self-sufficiency and independence by connecting them to service providers throughout the Stamford community. The HOPE VI CSSP team works onsite at Fairfield Court to direct residents to selected primary service providers and contractors from among twenty-six partner agencies (the CSSP Partnership).
