Image Family Centers is offering a series of workshops and therapy/support groups for children, adults and seniors on a variety of wellness and personal development topics. In addition to private counseling, educational classes and support groups, Family Centers offers seminars and workshops for community groups, schools and businesses led by licensed behavioral health specialists. The times and locations of these groups vary and are offered at Family Centers’ offices in Greenwich or Stamford.

ImageGroups for adults
“Have No Fear”
is a 10-week series of support group meetings that will meet at 60 Palmer’s Hill Road to help individuals identify those situations that create an avoidance or fear reaction and to develop specific skills for gradually overcoming these fears.  Contact Sylvia Kleidman, LCSW, for additional information at

“Parenting Children with Differences and Disabilitiesis a support group for parents who have a disabled child or one with learning differences. This group meets on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. at 20 Bridge Street, Greenwich.  Call Judith Basile at 629-2822.

“Group Therapy for Men and Women,” a traditional group therapy approach for individuals to understand and resolve their personal conflicts and learn new ways to achieve personal growth. A group meets Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. at 60 Palmer’s Hill Road in Stamford (call Carole Elias at 324-3167) and Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. at 20 Bridge Street in Greenwich (call Margie Mayer at 629-2822).

”Anger Management Therapy for Adults,” focuses on appropriate ways to handle conflict situations and express anger, as well as “letting go” to achieve personal and family harmony. A group conducted by Lynne Hone will meet on Wednesday evenings beginning in October. In addition, Marcia Velez conducts a group for Spanish-speaking adults on Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm.  Call the 60 Palmer’s Hill Road office in Stamford at 324-3167.

ImageGroups for children and teens
Social Support Groups for Preteens and Teens are groups that assist middle and high school boys and girls balance academic and social pressures and develop positive relationships with family and peers. These groups meet after school at 20 Bridge Street in Greenwich.  Contact Judith Basile at 629-2822. 

Anger Management for Preteens and Teens teaches students how to take control of anger so that it doesn’t control them. Participants will learn how to identify the stressors that provoke their anger, practice relaxation and self-talk techniques, as well as learn new communications skills. The classes are designed to be fun, yet seriously focused on helping teens develop an assertive, positive manner for handling conflict and anger.  Groups available at 20 Bridge Street in Greenwich or by arrangement at schools. Children of Divorce Groups,” led by licensed clinical social workers use creative and role-playing exercises that allow children, divided by age groups, 5-7 and 8-10, to explore personal feelings and learn communication skills in a supportive, nonjudgmental atmosphere. These groups meet on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 60 Palmers Hill Road in Stamford.  Call Helma Gregorich at 324-3167.

The Den For Grieving Kids bereavement resource center offers ongoing support groups for children and their parents and caregivers at Family Centers’ Greenwich office at 40 Arch Street on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings.  Family members attend The Den together and participate in age appropriate groups with other families experiencing similar types of loss or circumstances. In addition, by arrangement with area schools, The Den holds on-site support groups for students. Contact Deirdre Lewin at 869-4848 for additional information. 

 

ImageGroups for seniors
Family Centers offers daily groups and classes for seniors over the telephone through its Friendly Connections program. All seniors are invited to participate at no charge. For a complete listing of current classes see Friendly Connections or call 661-8841.
