December 10, 2005 "Friendly Connections Gives ‘Gifts' Aplenty To Its Listeners"
ImageThe week preceding Christmas is usually a frenzied time when everything comes to a standstill except for the stores brimming with shoppers looking for that “perfect” last minute present. For those members of our community that cannot easily leave their homes, life won't simply stand still for them. At Friendly Connections, where senior citizens and other homebound individuals “meet” over the phone through the Friendly Connections' teleconference program, the week preceding Christmas is as busy as ever. In addition to the regular groups and classes, Friendly Connections has prepared four special groups to bring holiday cheer.

On Tuesday, December 20th at 2 p.m. resident minstrel Judy Miller returns just in time for Christmas. Ms. Miller will lead a special sing-a-long group of all your favorite Christmas songs. Feel free to join in or just listen; either way it is a great way to inject some Christmas spirit into your holidays.

Wednesday, December 21st has two very different groups for you to unwrap. At 11 a.m. Carole Edelman, Director of Care Management and Geriatric Evaluation for Waveny Care Network in New Canaan, will open your mind to new ideas in geriatric care management. Ms. Edelman is an accomplished advanced practice nurse, published author and advocate for innovation in geriatric care throughout her career. At 4 p.m. Friendly Connection's regular Morna Ryan will bring listeners on a personal tour through the Bruce museum's current exhibit; American Impressionism: The Beauty of Work. Make sure to sign up early to receive a packet of photos that accompany the group.

On Thursday, December 22nd Friendly Connections is joined by Stephanie Paulmeno, Director of Community Planning for the Town of Greenwich. Ms. Paulmeno has had great success with her talk on “Getting Old Isn't for Sissies” and now brings it to you to via the Friendly Connections Telephone Group.

Family Centers' Friendly Connections is a dynamic and diverse group of seniors from lower Fairfield County who meet on a regular basis over the telephone from the comfort of their own homes.  Every day, in each of a variety of class offerings, up to eighteen members can enjoy interactive discussions with each other via conference calls, the 21st century “party line.”  Depending on their interests, members may see local museum exhibits, learn about historic places and people, discuss current events, listen to poetry, ask questions of medical professionals or just play bingo and socialize.

All that is needed is a regular telephone and an interest in joining a group of like-minded people.  No special equipment is needed to enjoy this program or other interesting and informative programs.  To express interest, find out more information or to receive a newsletter, please call 661-8841 (Greenwich), 656-1128 (Darien), 966-2912 (New Canaan), 323-3792 (Stamford) or click here for a complete list of groups and classes.
