Coney Island may be nearly 50 miles from Greenwich, but at its annual benefit on June 4, Family Centers gave more than 300 guests a taste of what the “Playground by the Sea” was like in its heyday. Held at the Belle Haven home of Arlene and Reuben Mark, the Coney Island benefit raised $600,000 for the agency’s 30 human service and education programs. Along with gourmet hot dogs, seafood paella and other tasty seaside treats courtesy of Outdoor Cookers, co-chairs Pam Caffray, Leigh Carpenter, Laurie Grauer, Laurie Host and Susan Yonce ensured everyone enjoyed all the accoutrements synonymous with America’s most famous shoreline destination. Before dinner, guests sipped on Cyclones while trying their hands at a number of carnival-style games in the Midway. Tarot card readers, stilt walkers and the “Human Blockhead” also entertained the crowd with special Coney Island flair. As the night wore on, DJ David Chang kept the dance floor packed by spinning an eclectic mix of party tunes.
