Local Retailers Prep for Last Minute Lumunary Sales Before Community-Wide Lighting on Dec. 20
Last weekend's wet weather may have put a damper on the county-wide "Hope Lights Lives" luminary lighting. But with a rain date set for this Sunday, Dec. 20, residents who have yet to purchase luminary kits still have time to get in on one of the area's most beloved holiday traditions.
"Hope Lights Lives" luminary kits - which contain 12 tea light candles, 12 white paper bags and 12 plastic candle holders - are still on sale for $25 at the following retail locations: In Darien - Aux Delices Foods by Debra Ponzek, Darien Sport Shop, The Gardener's Center and Florist, Goldenberry, Michael Joseph's Catering, Nielsen's Florist and Garden Shop, Palmer's Market and Swimm Pool & Patio. In Greenwich - McArdle's Florist and Garden Center, Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses. In New Canaan - M. Milestones, Walter Stewart's Market. In Weston - Peter's Weston Market, Weston Hardware. In Wilton - Hoffman Landscapes, Village Market. In Rowayton - Rowayton Wine Shop. Kits can also be purchased securely online by clicking here.
With the money raised through the "Hope Lights Lives" campaign, Family Centers is able to offer children, families and individuals coping with the loss of a loved one or a critical illness quality bereavement and support services through its Center for HOPE and The Den for Grieving Kids. But as the nation's economy still recovers from the worst recession is recent memory, community support is needed more than ever.
"Like most nonprofits, we're feeling the effects of the economic crisis - particularly when it comes to obtaining sponsors for our fundraising efforts," said Family Centers Vice President Jim Vivier. "While it's never ideal to reschedule a community-wide event like the luminary lighting, we hope to use this extra week to urge people help us reach our goals by purchasing kits through area retailers and on our website."
To date, nearly 6,000 luminary kits have been sold. Beginning at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20, neighborhoods throughout Fairfield County will light the luminaries to celebrate the holiday season and provide support and hope to people living with an illness or grieving the loss of a loved one.
"Hope Lights Lives" is sponsored by RBS Sempra Commodities, Hoffman Landscapes, Swimm Pools, Yankee Candle, Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, Webster Bank, Eastern Bag & Paper, St. Thomas More Church, Siegel, Reilly & Conlon, LLC, Premier Worldwide Express, BMW of Darien, Keno Graphics and Karl Chevrolet.
