Friendly Connections Summer Tea & Luncheon a Success
With more than 50 participants and volunteers in attendance, the Friendly Connections Summer Tea Luncheon and Social was a resounding success. The event was held Tuesday, July 14 at the Greenwich Boat and Yacht Club.
The gathering allowed homebound and isolated seniors to get together for an afternoon of fun and companionship. Attendees enjoyed food donated by Whole Foods, Planet Pizza, Costco, D'Agostino, Shop Rite and Stew Leonard's. Strauss Paper Company, Inc. also donated money for the purchase of other party supplies. For dessert, attendees enjoyed cookies from St. Mortiz Pastry Shop and tea from Bigelow and Twinings. Trader Joe's also donated several food baskets, which were raffled off at the end of the event.
A program of Family Centers, Friendly Connections offers comprehensive support and wellness services to seniors living in Fairfield County. Its Friendly Callers component connects isolated seniors with community volunteers, who make weekly phone calls and provide much-needed support and companionship. Meanwhile, the Friendly Visitors program matches homebound seniors with a volunteer, who visits their home on a weekly basis. Friendly Visitors is operated in partnership with the Greenwich Department of Social Services.
In addition to the support and companionship services offered through Friendly Callers and Friendly Visitors, Friendly Connections offers a host of telephone conference call groups. With topics ranging from current events to exercise to bingo, these groups allow seniors to stay connected to their community from the comfort of their homes.
